Alex Iwobi halts snapchat posts after club ban

Date:

Fulham FC has imposed a ban on behind-the-scenes dressing room content across social media platforms, effectively ending Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi’s popular Snapchat updates that gave fans a glimpse into the club’s inner workings.

Iwobi confirmed the new policy on Wednesday in a video posted to his official Snapchat account, revealing that Fulham’s media department intervened and ordered a halt to his regular backstage footage from the changing room.

“For those wondering why I’ve stopped snapping BTS in the changing room, someone in the media team said I haven’t been capturing the right stuff. So there’s no more BTS,” the 28-year-old midfielder explained.

He added that Fulham had warned players of financial penalties for violating the updated rules. “It’s a shame. I know you guys enjoy seeing what my teammates are like behind the scenes, but I have to respect the rules,” Iwobi said.

The Super Eagles star had garnered a loyal online following through his candid posts showing team banter, pre-match routines, and post-match reactions. His Snapchat feed offered fans rare access to the relaxed and unscripted side of life in a Premier League dressing room.

Since joining Fulham, Iwobi’s social media presence had become a defining element of his connection with supporters. However, Fulham’s decision highlights a growing trend among top-flight clubs to clamp down on player content that could inadvertently reveal tactical details, personal conversations, or moments deemed too sensitive for public viewing.

Premier League clubs have become increasingly cautious about digital access to private team spaces amid concerns over data leaks, media misinterpretation, and professionalism.

While the policy change may disappoint fans who enjoyed Iwobi’s content, it reflects the evolving balance between player expression and institutional control in the social media age.
