Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has hinted that Mohamed Salah’s recent exclusion from the squad was a direct result of the player’s own actions.
Becker made the remark while also expressing full support for manager Arne Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season.
Salah was dropped from the squad for Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday, following his controversial comments accusing the club of “throwing him under the bus.”
Speaking on the situation, Becker said Salah’s absence was understandable.
“Salah not being available is a consequence of what he did. He’s smart enough to know that,” he told Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian, however, stressed that he and Salah still share a strong bond.
“We’ve had a good relationship for a long time; he’s a legend for Liverpool. We will talk, but privately, because it’s personal.
“I don’t think Mo wanted to disrespect anyone—he just expressed how he felt about his situation.”
Becker added that he hopes to see Salah play for Liverpool again, though the matter remains between the forward and the club.
He also reaffirmed his faith in Slot:
“Do I back Arne Slot? Of course. People take last season’s Premier League title for granted. That should be enough. We believe in his knowledge and his style.”
