Alleged Assault, Car Theft: Court Remands Portable in Prison

Date:

Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, causing harm and resisting arrest.

The charges, according to the Ogun State Police Command, stem from allegations that the singer assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and other individuals. The arraignment followed a viral video that surfaced on Sunday showing Portable in police custody.

Prosecutors alleged that the incidents occurred on New Year’s Day at Portable’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo, where he reportedly attacked Ashabi and others. Additional alleged victims listed in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.

Portable was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at about ₦12 million, belonging to Ileyemi Damilola and reportedly purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple reportedly testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was absent. The police further accused the singer of assaulting and obstructing a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her official duties.

The presiding judge denied Portable’s bail application, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The court ordered that the officer must be present before bail could be considered and consequently remanded Portable in custody, adjourning the case to January 19, 2026, for a fresh bail hearing.
