Amadi Warns Nigerians Over New INEC Chairman’s Appointment

Date:

The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Dr. Sam Amadi, has raised concerns that many Nigerians are unaware of the potential dangers surrounding the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Amadi, in a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, criticized the public for commending Amupitan’s litigation skills rather than setting clear expectations for his tenure or warning him to avoid the alleged pitfalls of his predecessor, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

He lamented that Nigerians often trivialize critical national matters instead of holding leaders accountable.“Nigerian people. Instead of setting an agenda for him and warning him to steer away from the ways of Mahmud, they are praising his litigation skills. What is the relationship? Nigerians are not fully conscious of the danger they face. They are trivializing everything,” Amadi wrote.

Amadi’s remarks came in response to comments by Yusuf Dantalle, National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), who had earlier described Amupitan as “well grounded in litigation” and capable of sanitizing Nigeria’s electoral process.

Dantalle, during an interview on Arise Television, also praised the foundation laid by Yakubu’s administration, particularly in the area of technological innovations introduced into Nigeria’s election system.
