APC Chairman Yilwatda Denies Tinubu Running Mate Speculations

Date:

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed reports linking him to President Bola Tinubu’s possible running mate for the 2027 presidential election, describing the claims as false and misleading.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Yilwatda said there was no basis for the speculation, insisting that neither his name nor that of any other individual had been discussed in relation to the vice-presidential slot.

He also rejected claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was considering replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima, saying such reports were unfounded. According to him, the speculation was “raising dust where there is no dust at all.”

“Nobody is discussing anything about the issue of the vice president,” Yilwatda said, stressing that the matter was not on the party’s agenda.

The APC chairman explained that discussions about a running mate can only occur after the party’s presidential primary has been concluded.

“The issue of candidature comes after the primary election. It is after that the party and the candidate will sit down to select and nominate a running mate,” he stated.

Yilwatda further alleged that the rumours were being promoted by opposition elements seeking to distract the ruling party, adding that no such conversation had taken place within the APC.

He also recalled that he had previously cautioned APC political appointees and elected officials against commenting publicly on vice-presidential matters.
