APC rejects defection of PDP chieftain in Kwara

The All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Shonga, Edu local government area of Kwara has rejected the defection of a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Ndakene, into the party for failure to comply with the party constitution.

The party in its resolution at a meeting in Shonga, said that the decampee did not follow the due process as stated in the constitution.

Ndakene is a former commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC).

The members asserted that Ndakene, who left the party in the eve of the 2015 General Elections could not come through a back door and must report to the executive at the ward level for appropriate step.

According to them, the purported declaration of the decampee at the residence of the Kwara North Senatorial chairman of the party, Alhaji Isiaka Oniwa is illegitimate and thereby rejected.

Alhaji Mohammed Kasim, the chairman of Shonga Ward I, where Ndakene is hailed from, said that the coming of the PDP chieftain could brew up crisis if not properly managed.

He said since he was not part of the party victory in 2015 elections, he should wait till after 2019 election to file his application.

Kasim said Shonga Ward I, II and III were not aware of his defection because it was not done at the local level as required by the party rules and regulations.

Collaborating his position, Mallam Alhassan Sakiwa, the chairman of Shonga Ward III said the action of the former NPC commissioner had undermined the party executive  when he should have done the needful.

The representative of the elder caucus, Mallam Abubakar Usman urged him to go and settle down till after 2019 elections.

Hajia Fatima Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of women said they were in support of the argument of the party leaders in the district.

Reacting to the resolutions at the meeting, Alhaji Shaba Musa, a leader of the party in the district said the wish of the majority would prevail.

He, however, urged party members to be calm as he urged the state leadership to take up the case and work for the interest of the majority.

“We believe there is a due process. If this is followed, there would not have been any issue.

“Hope we will learn from process of party politics, process of organised democratic system, where the process must be followed”, he said.

Party leaders, who conducted the meeting commended sense of maturity exhibited by the members of the party.

Among the leaders were former local chairmen, former commissioners and political officer holders among others.
