Arteta Stands by Kepa Decision After Carabao Cup Final Loss

Date:

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has defended his choice to start Kepa Arrizabalaga over David Raya in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, which the Gunners lost 2-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Despite Kepa’s costly error leading to City’s opening goal, with Nico O’Reilly scoring both strikes, Arteta remained resolute when questioned about his selection.

“I would do that again. No regrets,” Arteta said. “I have to do what I think is right, honest and fair. It would have been very, very unfair on him and on the team to do something different.”

The Gunners had come into the final still chasing four trophies this season. The first half ended goalless, with both sides cautiously assessing each other. However, City broke the deadlock after the break, and O’Reilly’s second goal quickly sealed the win.
