Authorities Confirm Violent Attack on Catholic Church in Cross River

Date:

The Cross River Police Command has confirmed an attack on a Catholic church in the state, which occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday. Suspected arsonists reportedly invaded the church premises and set parts of the property ablaze.

ASP Sunday Eitokpah, of the command, said the fire destroyed all church records kept in the sacristy, causing significant damage to important documents. In addition, the attackers burnt a Lexus 350 Jeep belonging to the priest and a Toyota Corolla parked within the church compound.

No suspects have been identified so far, and investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible for the criminal act. Authorities are working to gather evidence and follow leads to apprehend the perpetrators.

Eitokpah assured residents that the police command would keep the public updated on developments. He emphasized that any identification of suspects would be promptly communicated to ensure transparency in the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about security around religious institutions in the state. Authorities are expected to step up patrols and preventive measures to safeguard churches and other places of worship.
