Bandits have reportedly killed one resident and abducted several others in separate attacks in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, despite an earlier peace agreement reportedly reached between local stakeholders and armed groups ahead of Ramadan.
According to reports shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X, the first attack occurred around midnight in the Gangaren Mangwarori area, where gunmen allegedly killed a resident identified as Malam Surajo and abducted an elderly woman known as Gwamma.
A second attack reportedly took place around 6 a.m. in the Marabar Gurbi community, where several residents were abducted, including the community’s second Imam, Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, who was reportedly attacked while heading to the mosque for the Fajr prayer.
Residents said the renewed violence has raised serious concerns and heightened fears in the area, particularly because it happened after assurances linked to a peace deal between community leaders and armed groups.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incidents, while locals are calling for stronger security deployment to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in the affected communities.
