A bank customer narrowly escaped death on Friday after suspected armed robbers trailed him from a bank and attacked him along Shiroro Road in Minna, Niger State, carting away millions of naira and his vehicle.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on March 6, 2026. The victim, Mr. David Adebayo Emmanuel, said he had earlier withdrawn N5 million from one bank shortly before 2:00 p.m. and later withdrew another N3 million from a second bank. He added that he already had N1 million in his possession at the time of the attack.
Emmanuel explained that the robbers attacked him while he stopped at a restaurant along the road to buy food. He said a well-dressed man approached him, threatened him with a firearm, and attempted to take control of his vehicle.
He stated that he managed to wrestle the rifle from the suspect and ran for safety before discharging the weapon in self-defence. According to him, the attackers fled with his Toyota Corolla after abandoning a getaway vehicle that failed to start.
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, noting that police recovered a rifle and the abandoned vehicle used by the suspects. He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
