We are battle-ready for yuletide season— IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Kpotun Idris has assured Nigerians that the police is battle ready to protect their lives and property throughout the yuletide period. Read also: See Saraki’s reactions to alleged Kwara Poly Tuition Fee increment (FULL TEXT)

He added that Officers and Men of the force have been put  on  a red alert  over the forth coming Christmas and New Year celebrations across the country .

He gave the assurance  over the weekend while speaking through  the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Command of the force , consisting of Kaduna and Niger states including the  Federal Capital Territory{FCT} Abuja, Alhaji Salisu Abdullahi Fagge during a brief condolence visit  Read also: Okorocha’s biological sister becomes commissioner for happiness and couples fulfilment  to the management and staff of both the  United Bank for African {UBA Nig. Plc and First Bank Nigeria plc, which branches at Lapai Local Government Area of the state  were attacked and robbed by some  armed robbers and during which  a policeman on guard duty and a civilian staff of one of  the two banks were shot dead  at close ranges .

The Police boss who also paid similar condolence  visit in conjunction with his counterpart,  Assistant Inspector General of Police,  in charge of Operations and Training at the Force Headquarters , Abuja,  Mr. Taiwo Lakanu to the palace of Emir of Lapai , Alhaji Umaru Bago III on behalf of the IGP, Alhaji Ibrahim  Idris,  said the police would continue to provide security for  lives and property of the citizenry throughout the festive periods  in  parts of the country.

He  appealed to members of the public to kindly provide  the police and other sister security agencies with  information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements in their midst throughout the yuletide period, saying that information  is very important to policing the society  with a view to further protecting  the Nigerian  public with  more security . Speaking further  about  the robbery attacks on the two branches of the old generation banks last Wednesday in Lapai ,  AIG  Salisu Fagge  said the casualty figures were two people adding that the two persons were a civilian and a police officer that was trying to react during the robbery incidence at  one of the banks , stressing that the policemen was shot by the hoodlums at the bank premises.

He stated further that the two persons killed at the branches of the banks at Lapai last Wednesday  might have been killed at the time of the robbery incidents by the men of the fleeing men  underworld because  the robbery gangs might have seen them as security threats to their operations .

“Concerning   . the death of our gallant officer, in the Nigeria Police Force we have what is called Special Insurance cover here and there and I am very sure that very,  very soon, the IGP would do something special for the families of the  deceased  gallant Police Officer  in the spirit of trying to protect our own personnel  because we are one family in  the Nigeria Police .

“It is very important that the immediate family of the fallen officer  must be made comfortable  so that others who are still alive and are in the service of their fatherland would be happy to make supreme sacrifice  when confronted with similar situation in the future”, said the Police boss.
