No fewer than five suspected armed robbers linked to the Offa Bank robbery attacks were on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin for mention.

ROYAL NEWS reports that about 33 people were killed in the attack including police personnel and a  pregnant woman among others.

It was gathered that the police prosecutor, ASP Jimoh Abdulkadir, who held brief for Officer-in-Charge of Legal, Kwara State Police Command, Kunle Iwalaiye, informed Magistrate Bio Saliu of an application submitted before the court indicating that the suspects have cases to answer.

He added that there was need for the police to carry on in its investigations in order to allow for the arrest of more suspects and transfer them to a proper court for trial.

Also speaking, Counsel to the accused persons , Barrister Abdulrasheed Lawal, said: “We have a letter before this honourable court dated 24th October 2018 seeking the withdrawal of Barrister Abdulwahab Bamidele Esq from representing all the accused persons and also myself holding the brief of Abdulwahab Bamidele Esq from the record of this honourable court.

“We have also copied the O/C Legal of the Kwara Police Command. In any circumstance, we want this court to discountenance the said names from the case record because we had no full knowledge of the matter at inception and the information given was misconstrued.”

Magistrate Bio Saliu however granted the withdrawal application of the defence counsel and also consented to the claim that the accused persons have cases to answer as moved by the Prosecutor, ASP Jimoh Abdulkadir, on the advise of the Department of Public Prosecution of the Kwara State Ministry of Justice.

”This decision will allow the suspects to know their fates in good time”, Saliu added.

He therefore adjourned the case to Thursday 6th December 2018 and ordered that the accused persons remain in prison custody.
