Fearing to be a father, Brooklyn teen pummelled his 16-month daughter, Little Nylaha Lewis, cracking her skull and blackening her eye during a Father’s Day beat-down that left her in a coma, police sources said.
The child bled on the brain, two skull fractures and bruises on her face, legs and other parts of her body.
And the girl, recovering at Maimonides Hospital, needed a blood transfusion, Daily News confirmed police report.
The near-death drama began on Sunday with 18-year-old Shaquan Taylor at his Coney Island apartment spending time with his daughter.
Sometime in the afternoon Taylor sent a Facebook message to the mom, telling her there was a problem and that she needed to pick up Nylaha, police sources said.
When Tammy Lewis arrived, her daughter was face-up on the couch and struggling to breathe, with obvious bruising on her face, sources said.
The 17-year-old mom grabbed Nylaha and left the apartment, but Taylor caught up to her in the lobby. He knocked her to the ground with one punch — as she was holding their child, sources said.
The father then grabbed his daughter and handed her to a friend, who passed the baby to an EMS crew that had been sent to the scene.
The young mom ran off, but Taylor chased her and continued bashing her outside his W. 32nd St. building, bruising her face, sources said.
Responding officers chased Taylor and busted him. He was charged early Monday with felony assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child younger than 17. He was also charged with beating Lewis.
Taylor denied beating his daughter, first claiming she fell off the bed, sources said. Then he said she fell off the toilet, sources said. But doctors told police the defenseless girl’s injuries weren’t consistent with a fall.
Taylor, who was waiting to be arraigned late Monday, will likely celebrate his birthday in custody. He turns 19 on Tuesday.
Taylor has five previous arrests, including one in 2015 in which he was charged with sexual misconduct because his girlfriend, Lewis, was only 14 at the time.
Their relationship continued and in April 2016, when Nylaha was 2 months old, Taylor was arrested for harassing Lewis, police sources said.
