Buhari makes fresh promises to Nigerians

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has assured the people of the nation that two major federal highways under construction will be completed and inaugurated before the end of 2022.

The roads are the Sagamu-Benin highway and the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

Femi Adesina, the president’s spokesman, said Buhari provided the security when he addressed Ogun residents on Thursday after inaugurating five key projects in the state.

Projects affected included Gateway City Gate; the 42 km Sagamu-Abeokuta interchange road; the 14 km Ijebu-Ode-Epe highway and two low-, middle- and upper-income housing estates in Kobape and Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta.

Mr. Buhari commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for delivering visionary and pioneering projects for the people, even amid the prevailing and challenging circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He described Abiodun as the “Acting Governor of the Gateway State of Nigeria.”

According to him, the governor is a worthy example of “promises made, promises kept.”

The president noted that the noble projects could not have materialized without the enormous investment and commitment of the state government to the safety of lives and property.

“This has made Ogun State one of the safest and most peaceful states in the country and the destination of choice for investors.

” You (Prince Abiodun) have justified the mandate of the people of the state of Ogun. You have represented our Party very well, ” he said.

The president expressed his satisfaction that the state government has rebuilt the 14 km Ijebu Ode-Mojoda-Epe highway that it inaugurated into a modern highway.

He noted that the impressive highway would complement the Sagamu-Benin Highway that the federal government is currently rebuilding; also scheduled for the opening this year.

” Just across the road is the 42-kilometer Sagamu-Interchange-Abeokuta highway that the state government has rebuilt and equipped with street lighting.

“This road has a direct connection with the Lagos-Ibadan Highway that the Federal Government is rebuilding and whose completion is scheduled for the end of this year.

“I am particularly impressed by the quality and standard of your road projects, and the creative way in which you have deployed resources to rebuild and rehabilitate them.

” It is important to note that the two highway projects that are being launched today are federal highways. This is an example of constructive engagement, cooperation, and collaboration between the states and the federal government.

“These highways are also well suited to our rail transportation master plan connecting Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital, with Kano, and Ogun state has more rail stations, along the Lagos-Ibadan rail corridor,” he added.
