Calls Mount for Tinubu’s Resignation Amid Escalating Insecurity

Date:

President Bola Tinubu is facing growing calls to resign as Nigeria grapples with a surge in deadly attacks and mass abductions across multiple states, including Kebbi, Kwara, and Zamfara.

The recent escalation in violence—linked to terrorists, bandits, and other armed groups—has drawn widespread public criticism, with activists, entertainers, and commentators accusing the federal government of failing to provide adequate security.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, in a post shared on X, urged Tinubu to step down and apologize to Nigerians, describing the president as “weak, clueless, and grossly incompetent.” Effiong added, “The killings and bloodbath can’t continue. Tinubu resign now.”

Comedian and actor Mr Macaroni echoed similar sentiments, stating on his X handle that leadership accountability would demand resignation in a “civilized country,” questioning why parts of Nigeria remain under “terrorist occupation.”

Social commentator Isaac Fayose also demanded Tinubu’s resignation in a viral video, criticizing what he described as the president’s inability to prevent daily kidnappings and widespread violence. “You are not capable of ruling this country,” he said.

Rapper and activist Falz added his voice to the growing criticism, accusing the president of failing to protect citizens. “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!” he wrote on X.

The presidency has yet to issue an official response to the calls.
