In a statement, Raspberry AI said the funding would be used to accelerate its product development and add top engineering, sales and marketing talent to its team. But with U.S. companies raising and/or spending record sums on new AI infrastructure that many experts have noted depreciate rapidly (due to hardware/chip and software advancements), the question remains which vision of the future will win out in the end to become the dominant AI provider for the world. Or maybe it will always be a multiplicity of models each with a smaller market share? That’s followed by more extensive evaluations and safety assessments by an extensive network of more than 6,000 nurses and 300 doctors, who will confirm that it passes all required safety tests.

Once the AI agent is up and running, the clinicians who created it will be able to claim a share of the revenue it generates from the startup’s customers. Currently the technology is being used by Under Armour, MCM Worldwide, Gruppo Teddy and Li & Fung to create and iterate apparel, footwear and accessories styles. The company’s existing investors Greycroft, Correlation Ventures and MVP Ventures also joined in the round, along with notable angel investors, including Gokul Rajaram and Ken Pilot. Clearly, even as he espouses a commitment to open source AI, Zuck is not convinced that DeepSeek’s approach of optimizing for efficiency while leveraging far fewer GPUs than major labs is the right one for Meta, or for the future of AI.

Story aims to bridge this gap by combining Stability AI’s cutting-edge technology with blockchain’s ability to secure digital property rights. For example, creators could register unique styles or voices as intellectual property on Story with transparent usage terms. This would enable others to train and fine-tune AI models using this IP, ensuring that all contributors in the creative chain benefit when outputs are monetized.

Holger Mueller of Constellation Research Inc. said Hippocratic AI is bringing two of the leading technology trends to the healthcare industry, namely no-code or low-code software development and AI agents. The launch is a bold step forward in healthcare innovation, giving clinicians the opportunity to participate in the design of AI agents that can address various aspects of patient care. It says clinicians can create an AI agent prototype that specializes in their area of focus in less than 30 minutes, and around three to four hours to develop one that can be tested. Shah said the last nine months since the company’s previous $50 million funding round have seen it make tremendous progress. During that time, it has received its first U.S. patents, fully evaluated and verified the safety of its first AI healthcare agents, and signed contracts with 23 health systems, payers and pharma clients.

For instance, one of its AI agents is specialized in chronic care management, medication checks and post-discharge follow-up regarding specific conditions such as kidney failure and congestive heart failure. The healthcare-focused artificial intelligence startup Hippocratic AI Inc. said today it has closed on a $141 million Series B funding round that brings its total amount raised to more than $278 million. “This round of financing will accelerate the development and deployment of the Hippocratic generative AI-driven super staffing and continue our quest to make healthcare abundance a reality,” he promised. Raspberry AI, the generative AI platform for fashion creatives, has secured 24 million US dollars in Series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Today, we’re going in-depth on blockchain innovation with Robert Roose, an entrepreneur who’s on a mission to fix today’s broken monetary system. Hippocratic AI’s early customers include Arkos Health Inc., Belong Health Inc., Cincinnati Children’s, Fraser Health Authority (Canada), GuideHealth, Honor Health, Deca Dental Management, LLC, OhioHealth, WellSpan Health and other well-known healthcare systems and hospitals.

By incorporating this wisdom into its AI agents, it’s making them safer and improving patient outcomes, it said. Crucially, any agent created using its platform will undergo extensive safety training by both the creator and Hippocratic AI’s own staff. Every clinician will have access to a dashboard to track their AI agent’s performance and use and receive feedback for further development.

Frank: ‘DSS Treatment of Sowore Tarnishes Nigeria’s Image’

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, has condemned the arrest and detention of activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS), describing it as a “national disgrace” and calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

Frank’s reaction followed a Federal High Court ruling that remanded Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his application challenging the revocation of his bail. Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the matter to June 24 after dismissing Sowore’s request for the judge to recuse himself over allegations of bias.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Frank alleged that Sowore’s arrest was politically motivated and part of a wider effort to intimidate opposition figures, journalists, civil society actors and critics of the government ahead of the 2027 general elections. He argued that the activist was merely exercising his constitutional right to freedom of expression.

Frank further accused security agencies of focusing on government critics while insecurity continues to threaten lives across the country. He questioned why outspoken citizens were being targeted instead of bandits and terrorists responsible for violent attacks in many parts of Nigeria.

The former APC spokesman also urged the judiciary to remain independent and called on the international community to monitor developments in Nigeria’s democratic space. He maintained that democracy thrives on free speech and accountability, insisting that security agencies should remain professional and non-partisan in carrying out their duties.

US Immigration Officials Order Deportation of Ayodeji Ajayi

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced plans to deport Nigerian national Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, citing his extensive criminal history and immigration violations after he allegedly remained in the country illegally following the expiration of his student status.

According to ICE, Ajayi entered the United States on a student visa in 2007 but failed to leave the country after discontinuing his studies. The agency said he subsequently accumulated several criminal convictions, including domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.

ICE also alleged that Ajayi’s criminal record includes more serious offences such as kidnapping, rape and family neglect. The agency stated that his impending deportation aligns with the immigration enforcement policies of US President Donald Trump aimed at removing criminal undocumented immigrants from the country.

The deportation announcement follows reports from May 2024 linking a 39-year-old man identified as Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi to a police standoff in Bradley County, Tennessee. Authorities said he was wanted on aggravated rape charges and initially refused to surrender, claiming to possess a firearm.

Law enforcement officers later arrested Ajayi and discovered he was carrying a toy BB pistol resembling a real gun. He was subsequently charged with multiple offences, including aggravated rape, rape, aggravated burglary, sexual battery, aggravated kidnapping and domestic assault.

Insecurity Worsens as Terrorists Attack Kogi Road, Abduct Five

Terrorists on Tuesday attacked travellers along the Okoloke–Isanlu Esa road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing two people and abducting at least five others in a fresh wave of insecurity in the area.

According to community sources, the heavily armed assailants ambushed commuters on the road, leaving two victims dead at the scene while taking several others to an unknown destination. Some residents also reported that a number of persons were still unaccounted for after the attack.

A community source said families had begun searching for missing relatives, adding that the incident caused panic among residents and travellers using the route. The source noted that at least five people were confirmed kidnapped, while efforts were ongoing to determine the whereabouts of others.

The Okoloke–Isanlu Esa road serves as a key link between communities in Yagba West, an area that has witnessed repeated cases of kidnapping and attacks by armed groups operating in nearby forests. Residents have repeatedly expressed concerns over the worsening security situation along the corridor.

Security agencies were reportedly alerted and had begun mobilising to the area as of the time of the report, although details of any rescue operation remained unclear. The latest attack has renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect lives and property across affected communities in Kogi State.

NELFUND Appointment Delay Leaves Employees in Financial Hardship

More than a year after receiving appointment letters from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), dozens of successful candidates are yet to resume work, despite completing all required documentation and repeatedly seeking intervention from relevant authorities.

The employees were issued appointment letters dated January 14, 2025, signed by NELFUND Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr, following a recruitment exercise. After accepting the offers and completing documentation on February 3, 2025, they were informed that resumption would follow shortly. However, nearly 18 months later, no definite resumption date has been communicated.

The prolonged delay has left many of the affected workers facing financial and emotional hardship. Some resigned from previous jobs after receiving the appointment letters, while others informed their families of what they believed would be a new beginning. Instead, they have endured months of uncertainty, struggling to support their households and explain the situation to relatives and friends.

In a bid to resolve the matter, the employees wrote to the Chairman of the House Committee on Students Loan, Scholarship and Higher Education Financing, Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero, in January and February 2026, expressing concern over the delay and its impact on their livelihoods. They later appealed to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in May 2026, detailing the sacrifices they had made and the hardship caused by the prolonged wait.

Despite their continued commitment to NELFUND’s mandate and the Federal Government’s student loan programme, the employees say they have received no clear explanation for the delay. They are now urging NELFUND management, the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to clarify their employment status and provide a firm timeline for resumption.

  • Local Petrol Production Hits 48 Million Litres Daily, Says Presidency

Local Petrol Production Hits 48 Million Litres Daily, Says Presidency

The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria’s local petrol production has increased from virtually zero in 2023 to about 48 million litres per day, marking a significant shift in the country’s energy sector.

The disclosure was made by Olu Verheijen during the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce Energy Day 2026 held in Lagos.

According to Verheijen, the development means that, for the first time in decades, most of the petrol consumed in Nigeria is now refined locally rather than imported.

She explained that the rise in domestic refining has significantly reduced the country’s dependence on imported fuel and eased pressure on foreign exchange demand. Petrol import costs, she said, fell sharply from about ₦2.3 trillion in the first quarter of 2025 to less than ₦90 billion a year later.

“Fewer dollars spent on fuel means less pressure on the naira. Energy security and currency stability are not separate goals; they are the same goal,” Verheijen stated.

On crude oil production, she revealed that Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate output averaged 1.64 million barrels per day in 2025, representing an increase of roughly 400,000 barrels per day compared to 2023 levels. She described the figure as the highest onshore production level recorded in two decades.

The presidential adviser also disclosed that more than $4 billion worth of international oil company divestments had been completed, helping to expand indigenous participation in onshore operations while major oil firms shifted focus to deepwater and integrated gas projects.

According to her, pipeline operations have improved significantly, while incidents of illegal refining have reduced, contributing to higher production levels and increased government revenue.

Reflecting on the state of the sector when the current administration assumed office in 2023, Verheijen said the industry faced serious challenges, including unsustainable fuel subsidies, foreign exchange distortions, low production levels and mounting power-sector debts.

She noted that the government responded by removing fuel subsidies and implementing exchange-rate reforms, describing the decisions as difficult but necessary to restore fiscal stability and investor confidence.

As a result, she said total federation revenue rose from about ₦12 trillion in 2023 to approximately ₦21 trillion in 2024, nearly doubling within a year.

Verheijen added that despite the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, the government has largely prevented the widespread fuel shortages and long queues that previously characterised petrol distribution across the country.

Nigeria’s Gas Production Rises to 7.63 Billion Cubic Feet Daily, Presidency Says

Nigeria’s gross gas production has increased to 7.63 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscf/d), up from about 6.83 billion standard cubic feet per day recorded in 2023, according to the Presidency.

The disclosure was made by Olu Verheijen during the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce Energy Day 2026 held in Lagos.

Verheijen said Nigeria’s proven gas reserves have also grown to more than 215 trillion cubic feet, attributing the progress to targeted presidential directives aimed at improving investment conditions for deep-water projects, non-associated gas development and midstream infrastructure.

According to her, more than $4 billion in international oil company divestments have been redirected into deep-water and integrated gas projects, while reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have significantly reduced the cost and time required to do business in the sector.

She explained that contract approval timelines, which previously took as long as 36 months, have been reduced to about 14 months, with the government targeting a further reduction to six months.

The presidential adviser noted that Nigeria’s share of African upstream Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) rose from about four per cent in 2023 to roughly 40 per cent across 2024 and 2025. She added that the improvement attracted about $10 billion in commitments, with a potential investment pipeline estimated at $500 billion.

Verheijen said several previously stalled projects, including the Bonga North, Ubeta and HI gas developments, have resumed, while new non-associated gas projects are expected to strengthen long-term supply for Nigeria’s liquefied natural gas exports.

She stressed that the administration views gas not only as a transition fuel but also as a key driver of industrialisation, supporting power generation, fertiliser production, petrochemicals, clean cooking, compressed natural gas transportation, manufacturing and exports.

On the power sector, Verheijen said the government is addressing longstanding financial challenges through the Presidential Power Sector Debt Reduction Programme. She revealed that the Federal Executive Council approved a bond programme of up to ₦4 trillion to clear verified debts owed to electricity generation companies and gas suppliers.

According to her, generation companies have already signed settlement agreements worth about ₦2.28 trillion, while a ₦501 billion first-series bond has been issued and oversubscribed. A second bond worth ₦729 billion is expected to complete the first phase of the programme.

Verheijen described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to restore liquidity, rebuild investor confidence and create a stronger foundation for future investments across Nigeria’s energy value chain.

The Presidency and the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, exchanged sharp words on Tuesday over his call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign following the resignation announcement of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Obi argued that President Tinubu should consider stepping down, claiming the administration had failed to fulfil key campaign promises, particularly in the areas of electricity supply, security and economic welfare. He cited Starmer’s decision to resign amid public dissatisfaction in the United Kingdom as an example of political accountability.

In a post titled “Owning Up to Leadership Failures and Political Responsibility,” Obi recalled that Tinubu had previously demanded the resignation of former President Goodluck Jonathan over insecurity and economic hardship, including during the Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction crisis.

According to Obi, the challenges Tinubu promised to address during the 2023 election campaign have worsened, with Nigerians continuing to grapple with unreliable electricity, rising insecurity and severe economic difficulties.

The Presidency swiftly rejected the call, describing it as political grandstanding and an attempt to distract from recent electoral victories recorded by the ruling party. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said Obi’s argument ignored the fact that Nigeria operates a presidential system of government, unlike the parliamentary system in the United Kingdom.

The Presidency maintained that Tinubu was elected for a fixed four-year term and that any assessment of his performance should be left to voters during the next presidential election.

Defending the administration’s record, Onanuga said the government inherited deep-rooted security and economic challenges but had made measurable progress. He pointed to military operations against terrorist groups, the rescue of kidnapping victims, deployment of advanced security technology and ongoing economic reforms.

The Presidency also cited recent election results in parts of the country as evidence of continued public support for Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that the outcomes reflected confidence in the administration.

The exchange highlights growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinising the government’s handling of economic and security challenges, while the Presidency insists its reforms are yielding positive results and should be judged at the polls.

22 Killed in Plateau Attack as Kidnapping Crisis Triggers Protests in Oyo

At least 22 people, including health workers and security personnel, were killed when armed attackers stormed Kawel village in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Sunday night, escalating concerns over insecurity across Nigeria.

Residents said the gunmen invaded the community, opened fire indiscriminately and attacked a Primary Health Care Centre, where health workers and patients were among those killed. Several others sustained gunshot and machete injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Bokkos Youth Leader, Christopher Luka, confirmed that the death toll had risen to 22 following further assessments. However, the Plateau State Police Command officially confirmed 20 deaths, saying armed assailants attacked the community late Sunday night before security forces engaged them in a gun battle and forced them to retreat.

Reacting to the attack, the Plateau State Government condemned the killings and described them as a senseless act of violence against a peaceful community. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang ordered security agencies to intensify operations, arrest the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, panic gripped Owo in Ondo State after suspected kidnappers carried out two separate attacks. Gunmen attempted to abduct community leader Pastor Taiwo Taiwo but were repelled by police operatives. In a second incident, a woman, Taibat Ologun, and her two children were abducted after her husband was shot in the leg.

Security operatives later rescued the woman and her children unharmed after a gun battle forced the kidnappers to abandon them and flee. Police said efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and dismantle criminal hideouts in the area.

In Oyo State, members of the Take It Back Movement staged a protest in Ibadan, blocking parts of the busy Iwo Road interchange to demand the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area in May. The demonstration caused major traffic disruptions and highlighted growing public frustration over worsening insecurity.

The South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, assured residents that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers. He expressed confidence that the victims would regain their freedom soon.

Separately, Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, said his advocacy for improved security was directed at criminal elements and not any ethnic group. He called for collective action against kidnapping, banditry and violent crimes across the country.

Also reacting to the security situation, Catholic Bishops of the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province criticised the reintegration of repentant terrorists and bandits into society and security structures. The bishops argued that such policies undermine justice, diminish support for victims and could encourage further criminal activities.

The clerics urged the Federal Government and state authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve policing, deploy modern security technology and consider the establishment of state police as part of broader efforts to tackle Nigeria’s growing security challenges.
