Chinese govt. set to assist Nigeria reduce poverty – Ambassador

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Mr. Cui Jianchn, has disclosed that the Chinese government is ready to help Nigeria reduce the level of poverty in the African country.

Cui made this known on Tuesday in Abuja during the closing of the Nigeria-China Cultural Week and Award Ceremony, a series of activities to commemorate the two countries’ National Day on October 1.

During the celebration of China’s 72nd birthday, Cui said his country has recorded robust growth and successes in its economy, innovation, poverty eradication, Belt and Road initiative. , among others.

Cui said that part of his strategies as an ambassador to replicate China’s success in Nigeria is to send young Nigerians to China, study the system, gain experience and impact in the system. Nigerian.

“On February 25, the Chinese president told the international community that we have succeeded in eradicating extreme poverty.

“I want to share with you that this is really the greatest achievement of the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese nation

“I would like to share with you that we can do it together because the elimination, reduction or eradication of poverty really needs leadership and it has been shown that the Chinese president has strong will.

“How can we achieve this difficult goal? We can see that a lot of project policies are in place.

“The most important aspect is that we mobilize all of society to work together to eradicate poverty in rural areas.

“I hope that next year after COVID-19, I think about the possibility of getting young people from Nigeria to go to China to learn from the Chinese side, to gain experience. I think if China can do it, Nigeria can too.

“We can apply not only the Chinese model but also the way to eradicate poverty. I think it is necessary that both countries work to eradicate poverty. You know you have your goal.

“I think this is a very significant thing not only for the Nigerian people but also for the international community.

Cui praised the strong bilateral relations between China and Nigeria over the past 50 years and called for a more holistic and comprehensive approach to build “our bilateral relations in 50 years”.

He said relations will continue to develop with stronger ties in the sectors of power, politics, economy, military, security, as well as international cooperation and people-to-people collaboration.

The ambassador said that the photography and video competition, organized by the embassy, ​​also aims to create a platform to celebrate the excellent cultural relations between the two countries.

In his remarks, Otunba Segun Runsewe, Director General of the National Arts and Culture Council (NCAC), praised Cui for his efforts to strengthen Nigeria-China ties with so many strategies and commitments.

He said the rapid growth of the Chinese economy was a wake-up call for Nigeria, adding that Nigeria was ready to learn in the right direction.

“Since His Excellency came to Nigeria, I have seen a man who is ready to make Nigeria catch up with some of China’s development achievements.

“Today, His Excellency raised the issue of the 10 billion US dollars, which lasted 18 years at 16 trillion US dollars. I want to assure you this is a wake-up call, ”Runsewe said.

Runsewe said the NCAC is also ready to strengthen cultural ties with China, adding that Nigeria will build a cultural village during the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, China, to celebrate cultural ties.
