An Upper Area Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has adjourned the ongoing defamation case involving prominent Ogbomoso-based Islamic cleric, Dr. Sharafdeen Gbadebo Raji, and three others, to August 14, 2025, to allow room for possible amicable resolution.
Dr. Raji and his co-defendants are facing allegations of defamation and making provocative statements against the religious practices of Ilorin, which he reportedly described as contrary to Islamic teachings.
During the proceedings, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Chairman of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) both appealed for the matter to be settled peacefully.
The Defence Counsel was led by Barrister Oluwaseun Ayodele, while US Imam Fulani led the team representing Muslim lawyers.
Both the complainant, Sheikh Abu Sheriff, and the defendant, Dr. Sharafdeen Raji, were absent during the court sitting.
Presiding over the case, Honourable Justice Ladan advised both parties to adopt the peaceful approach of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in resolving conflicts, before adjourning the matter to mid-August for further developments.
