Customs, NDLEA Seize 347.5kg Cannabis at Apapa Port

Date:

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Port Command, in a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has intercepted 347.5 kilograms of “Canadian Loud,” a high-potency cannabis strain, concealed inside an imported Toyota Sienna vehicle at the Apapa Port.

The illicit drug was discovered hidden in 13 bags within one of four vehicles in a single import consignment. Customs officials said the seizure was made less than 24 hours after the Apapa Port Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, received a World Customs Organisation (WCO) Certificate of Merit. A breakdown of the consignment showed 10 bags weighing 25kg each, one bag of 29kg, and two others weighing 34.5kg and 34kg respectively.

Reacting to the interception, Oshoba said the operation reflected intensified intelligence-driven surveillance and strong inter-agency collaboration between Customs and the NDLEA. He warned that criminal networks attempting to smuggle prohibited items through Apapa Port would continue to be detected and dismantled, stressing that no cargo would bypass thorough examination.

The seized drugs have been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution. Customs said the interception, the fourth joint drug seizure at the port in under two months, aligns with its mandate to facilitate legitimate trade while protecting society, in line with the 2026 International Customs Day theme on vigilance and commitment.
