Dangote Responds to Refinery Financing Reports, Denies Fallout

Date:

The Dangote Group has dismissed a viral report alleging that its President, Aliko Dangote, distanced himself from Tony Elumelu and financed the Dangote Petroleum Refinery through personal borrowing from friends, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company said neither Dangote nor the organisation made the statements being circulated, labelling the publication as malicious and a deliberate distortion of facts.

The Group firmly rejected assertions that the refinery project was funded through informal loans, insisting that such claims misrepresent the actual financing structure and do not reflect Dangote’s business practices.

It also denied reports of any rift between Dangote and Elumelu, stating that both businessmen maintain a longstanding and cordial relationship despite the rumours circulating online.

The company further warned against the rising spread of fake statements and AI-generated content misusing Dangote’s identity, noting it may pursue legal action against those responsible while remaining focused on driving industrial growth across Africa.
