Defection: Plateau Assembly declares Abok, ex-Speaker’s seat vacant

The Plateau State House of Assembly, on Tuesday declared the seat of the lawmaker representing Jos East constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon Ayuba Abok vacant.

The Plateau Assembly took the decision during a plenary that took place at the temporary chamber at the old Government House, Jos and presided over by Speaker, Hon Sanda Ayuba .

The decision of the House followed a letter from the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress Plateau state chapter urging the Speaker to declare Abok’s seat vacant following his defection from the APC to the PDP contrary to section 109 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution .

It could be recalled that the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Abok Nuhu Ayuba, last weekend decamped from the All Progressives Congress APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A statement signed by Itse Samuel Kaze, Media Assistant to Abok Nuhu Ayuba, reads that Ayuba, on March 18th, officially tended his letter of resignation from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), while presenting a letter of intent, seeking to return to his earlier party, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the party’s Local Government Secretariat in Angware, Jos East.

The Speaker further declared the Rukuba / Irigwe constituency seat vacant following the former member Hon Musa Agah,s Victory at the recent Jos North / Bassa Federal Constituency bye election .
