Delta to recruit 1,500 teachers---- Commissioner | Royal News

Delta to recruit 1,500 teachers—- Commissioner

The Delta government on Tuesday approved the hiring of 1,500 teachers for its secondary schools as part of plans to boost education in the state.

The State Information Commissioner, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, told reporters in Asaba that it was part of the decisions made at a recent State Executive Council (EXCO).

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the administration led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had hired some 1,000 science teachers in its secondary schools across the state three years ago.

Aniagwu said the conscription became necessary to fill gaps in all subjects caused by deaths, retirements and the establishment of new schools across the state.

He said recruitment would be based on merit and without political influence, adding that interviews would be conducted by computer.

According to him, applicants will be evaluated in their areas of study.

The commissioner also said that the state government has approved the construction of the 14-kilometre highway and the perimeter fence of the Asaba airport.

He said the perimeter fence, part of the agreement reached before the airport was awarded, was in line with the airport authority’s efforts to control incursion animals.

He said that in line with the government’s urban renewal initiatives, new internal road projects and upward revision of other road projects were approved for some cities in the state.

“The EXCO approved the construction of some roadways on the Asaba and Oko, Oshimili North, Burutu, Bomadi, Ika Northeast, Kwale in Ndokwa West, Ika South axes,” among others, he said. .
