Dip in petrol price causes reduction in Gambia’s fares

Gambia: Dip in petrol price forces reduction in transport fares

The Gambia has released a new tariff, reducing transport fares on passenger vehicles across all destinations.

The cut in fares was necessitated by a recent drop in prices of fuel by 25 per cent.

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure released the tariff on Monday.

The new tariff made available to APA on Tuesday, included major towns and communities where commercial vehicles ply and a slight reduction on the fares, depending on the distance.

The Transport Minister, Mr. Mai Lamin Jobe, announced that the new fares would be enforced with effect from 21 August, 2017.

He urged the transport unions and associations to comply with the new fares and distribute the new tariff to all garages.

According to the ministry, the move became necessary following the drop in domestic retail fuel prices by 25 per cent.

The minister said that the move was part of government’s efforts in providing affordable and accessible transport services for the citizenry.
