Evangelical Church of Winning All (ECWA) on Thursday prayed for the safe return of the 110 school girls allegedly abducted by Boko Haram members in Yobe.
The women offered the prayer in Ilorin during a press conference on the coming 75th anniversary conference of the ECWA Women Fellowship International.
Chairman of the Central planning Committee of the Conference, Dr (Rev) Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Malomo, who led the prayer expressed ECWA concern on the spate of insecurity in the country.
The clergyman therefore called on religious bodies to intensify their prayers for the safe return of the kidnapped school girls.
Malomo said ECWA was affected by the series of Boka Haram attack on communities in the North Eastern part of the country.
According to him, ECWA churches, members and Pastors have fallen victims of the Boko Haram attacks in the region.
“ECWA is not happy about the abduction of the school girls in Yobe, over 6, 000 members of our church were affected in the crisis.
“In the North East, our pastors were killed, ECWA churches burnt down, many of the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram were ECWA members; we are also affected,” he added.
Malomo therefore called on the Federal Government to rise to the challenges of security in the country and tackle it head on.
“Government should do more to secure the lives of the people of the country, particularly children who are the future of the country.
“ECWA will continue to pray for the safe return of the abducted school girls from captivity,” Malomo said.
He said the 75th women Fellowship will hold in Igbaja from March 7 to 9, 2018.
“This year’s conference is unique because it also coincides with the 75thAnniversary of the ECWA Women Fellowship International started in 1943 at Miango, Plateau state,” he added.
The cleric said for the past 75 years, the women fellowship has been involved in women Bible study, women prayers, skill acquisition and empowerment of women at the different levels.
According to Malomo, ECWA women have been involved in women literacy and enlightenment programs, raising women as peace and conflict resolution agents in the family and society.
He added that members of the Fellowship have been mentoring and disciplining young women as role models.
The cleric said ECWA has churches across the states and in over seven countries cut across four continents of the world.
According to him, part of the high points of the conference would be fund raising that would be channeled as support to women and children in various IDP camps.
“These groups are most vulnerable and are largely affected in the terrorist attacks and herdsmen attacks in the northern part of the country.
Malomo noted that the current security challenges in the country called for more orientation and security consciousness of the people, adding that the conference will provide such a platform.
