Edo PDP Demands Clarity On Governor’s $250m Investment Claim

Date:

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide a clear explanation of the $250 million investment he claims to have secured from Glasgow.

In a statement issued in Benin City, the party also criticised what it described as the governor’s repeated verbal attacks on opposition leaders.

PDP Publicity Secretary Daniel Osa-Ogbegie said the governor’s investment announcement had generated concern and embarrassment among residents, adding that questions remain about the state government’s transparency and fiscal management.

He also queried the administration’s handling of projects initiated under former Governor Godwin Obaseki, alleging that many appear to be abandoned or neglected.

Osa-Ogbegie said the PDP would continue to scrutinise the government’s financial decisions and hold the administration accountable where gaps in transparency or accountability are identified.

While affirming the party’s respect for lawful authority, he stressed that its primary duty is to the people of Edo State. “Where government policies genuinely improve the lives of Edo citizens, we will support them. But where governance lapses into oppression, waste, or deception, we will stand firmly with the people,” he said.

He warned that the PDP would no longer ignore what it views as the governor’s recurring insults toward opposition figures. “Edo politics should rise above insults and embrace responsible, issue-based debates,” he said, urging leaders to focus on governance, infrastructure, the economy and public welfare.

Osa-Ogbegie added that if the government is confident in its policies, it should defend them “with facts and substance, not invectives.”
