The Kwara State Fire Service on Saturday recovered the body of a 43-year-old man who tragically lost his life after jumping into a well in the Edun area of Ilorin West Local Government Area.
The deceased, identified as Kareem, reportedly took his life shortly after returning from Eid-el-Kabir prayers on Friday. Authorities suspect he was under the influence of a potent synthetic drug known locally as “Colorado.”
In an official statement, Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, noting that a distress call was received at approximately 10:29 a.m. on Saturday. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene at Ile Alapo, where they successfully recovered the body.
“The victim, identified as Kazeem, reportedly jumped into the well after allegedly consuming a hard substance known as Colo (Colorado),” the statement read. “His body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station in Ilorin, pending formal identification by his family.”
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
Reacting to the incident, Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sorrow and used the opportunity to warn residents about the dangers of substance abuse. He emphasized that drug misuse continues to claim lives and urged the public to seek healthier alternatives, especially during festive periods.
