Eid-el-Kabir: Ex-Minsiter, Baraje sue for peace, unity

Former Minister for National Planning, Professor Sulaiman Abubakar and the former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Alhaji Kawu Baraje, have urged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the practice of perseverance on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration.

In their separate sallah messages issued on Tuesday, the duo advocated for humble submission, humility and togetherness which are the lessons taught by the hajj rites and Eid-el- kabir festival.
The ex-Minister who is also a gubernatorial aspirant in Kwara State noted that, the rite of hajj which involves the coming together of millions of people with diverse nationalities across the world, for a common purpose, symbolizes the need for a  harmonious Co existence among the citizens irrespective of the divergent tribal, political, and religious teachings.
“The Muslim festival of Eid-el-Kabir, teaches the lessons of humble submission, humility and perseverance as demonstrated by Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail respectively. As the nation prepares for yet another election, political leaders and followers must eschew political bitterness, unhealthy rivalry and acrimonious campaigns that are laced with hate speeches ,in order to keep the country together and as a way of ensuring  an enabling environment for a better living conditions for the electorates.
Similarly, the former acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, charged Nigerians to intensify efforts in praying for the unity and progress of the country adding that, “few months to the conduct of the general elections, the Unity and oneness of the country is sacrosanct.”
He however appealed to Muslim faithful to be committed to the lessons of the Eid Ahda by making sacrifices and working for the unity of the nation, particularly in upholding the democratic principles of the country.
“Muslims must not lose sight of the quintessential virtues and blessings, as well as the moral and spiritual wisdom of the season, they need to imbibe the spirit of piety, sacrifice and alms giving”, he added.
