Eight victims of the recent attack on Gwon-Ajang village in Foron District of Barkin Ladi in Plateau State were buried on Tuesday in an emotional ceremony marked by grief and renewed calls for stronger security intervention.
The victims were laid to rest amid tears from family members, community leaders, religious figures and sympathisers, following the assault that also left more than 15 people injured. The attack has further deepened concerns over recurring violence in parts of the state.
Former lawmaker representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Peter Gyendeng, condemned the continued killings, lamenting what he described as persistent attacks on peaceful communities that have repeatedly suffered losses without provocation.
He said residents had remained non-violent despite repeated assaults, expressing frustration over what he called the inability of authorities to halt the cycle of bloodshed. He urged security agencies to urgently step up efforts and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
Also reacting, lawmaker representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, Ishaya David Lalu, described the killings as painful and unacceptable, stressing that no community should be forced to live under constant fear of attack.
He called for stronger protection of vulnerable communities and improved security response, warning that continued violence poses a serious threat to peaceful coexistence in the region.
The President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, said the security situation remained alarming, noting that many rural areas were left exposed due to inadequate security presence and reliance on poorly equipped local vigilantes.
He urged the federal government to deploy more security personnel to affected communities and strengthen intelligence and protection measures, while also calling for broader collaboration to address worsening insecurity in Plateau State.
The incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks in the region, intensifying pressure on authorities to implement lasting measures to restore safety and confidence among residents.
