Enugu North To Tinubu: Break 26-Year Jinx, Give Us a Minister

Date:

A political group under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Enugu North APC Frontiers, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to address what it described as decades of marginalisation of the Enugu North Senatorial Zone in ministerial appointments.

The appeal follows the resignation of former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, last week over alleged certificate forgery. The group urged President Tinubu to appoint Nnaji’s replacement from Enugu North, arguing that the zone has never produced a minister since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

In a letter to the President signed by Barr. Ejikeme Ugwu, National Convener, and Sydney Eze, National Secretary, the group lamented that Enugu West had produced four ministers and Enugu East three, while Enugu North had been consistently excluded for 26 years.

“This is a clear manifestation of marginalization and lack of fairness in Enugu State since 1999,” the letter read. “We, the people of Enugu North, constituting over 52% of the state’s population, deserve inclusion and representation at the Federal Executive Council.”

The group also noted that from 2015 to 2023, no individual from Enugu North served in an executive capacity except Gen. Eze (rtd.), a former ambassador, and the late Senator Ayogu Eze, who briefly chaired the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in 2023.

According to the Frontiers, Enugu North is home to “honest, capable, and God-fearing professionals” who could serve effectively as ministers or heads of federal agencies under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

They urged the President to “break this jinx” and appoint an Enugu North indigene as minister, assuring Tinubu of massive electoral support in the 2027 general elections.
