Fashola to Deliver UNILORIN’s 40th Convocation Lecture

Former Lagos State governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), will deliver the 40th convocation lecture of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The university’s registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, announced this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the convocation events will span from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.

According to Alfanla, the lecture, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” will take place at the University Auditorium by 9:00 a.m.

He also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to commission several newly completed projects at the university as part of the week-long celebrations.

The convocation activities will begin on Friday, October 17, with a special Juma’at service at the University Central Mosque at 1:00 p.m., followed by an interdenominational service on Sunday, October 19, at the Chapel of the Light.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN) will address a world press conference on Monday, October 20, to highlight the university’s achievements over the past year.

On Tuesday, October 21, the convocation play “Joromi” will be staged at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions—4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Graduands of four-year programmes and diplomas will be honoured on Wednesday, October 22, following Fashola’s lecture. The following day, October 23, will feature the convocation of five- and six-year programme graduands, as well as postgraduate students, alongside the investiture of Emeritus Professors.

President Tinubu’s commissioning of university projects is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, to be followed by a staff merit award ceremony and convocation luncheon at 4:00 p.m.

The convocation ceremonies will conclude with another Juma’at service on Friday, October 24, and a thanksgiving service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 26, at 9:00 a.m.
