Fayemi’s wife canvasses support for use of “Aso Oke” for identity creation

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, has advocated for the use of “Aso-Oke”, to avoid not to go into extinction.

Erelu Fayemi, noted that “aso-oke”, is about identity, as a Nigerian, an African person and most importantly, as Ekiti people.

Mrs. Fayemi made the remarks at the “Aso-Oke” plugging exhibition held at the Adetiloye hall in Ado-Ekiti by Treasurer Stitches.

Erelu said there is a demand for “aso-oke”, every weekend or ceremony, there is need for the people to build local demand and capacity for supply everywhere.

She urged the people to plug-in for the use of “aso-oke” and to get out of poverty and generate income from the brand.

In her welcome address, the convener, “Aso-Oke” plugging and proprietor, Treasure Stitches, Mrs. Adeola Abiola, said the exhibition is about promoting the use of “aso-oke”.

According to her, aso-oke is arm woven fabric that is made and worn by people in Yoruba land, traditional rulers and also for occasional use.

“Bringing this idea with the support of the first lady, Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, is to promote aso-oke into everyday use and for economic benefit”, she commended Erelu Fayemi, who has promoted aso-oke, so well.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Yemisi Adeyeye, a medical practitioner and guest speaker, for “Aso-Oke” plugging in runway show, urged the people to find a place in the production and the marketing and the usage of aso-oke.

Mrs. Adetoun Tade, the President, International Visitor Leadership, IVLA, Program Alumi Association, United State, commended the convener for her efforts in promoting the brand “aso-oke”, saying the impact should be felt in our communities and society.

Mrs. Tade, said aso-oke should be globally relevant, the reason why they came to support the initiative.

The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mr. Muyiwa Olumilua, said the first lady has been in the forefront of pushing aso-oke brand. He promised that the state would partner the brand in their journey.

Many government functionaries attended the plugging including Prof. Raji Bakare, lawmakers, visitors and professionals from Bayesla, Enugu, United States, came to support their own.
