FG Approves $3.9Billion For Warri-Abuja Rail Line Project

The Federal Government has approved the sum of $3.9 billion for the Warri-Abuja rail line project in order to link all Nigeria’s cities by rail.

The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi revealed this while addressing Journalists at Kila area near Ibadan, the Oyo state capital during the monthly inspection tour of the Lagos Ibadan railway Project on Friday.

He added that the said sum approved is for Warri-Abuja rail and the seaport at Warri.

It would be recalled that Amaechi in one of the inspections revealed that, linking Itakpe-Warri railway to Abuja, is a different project entirely and is expected to cost about $3 billion from Itakpe to Abuja with a seaport at Warri.

Speaking on the Lagos-Ibadan railway, the minister said the contractor have covered over 123 out of the 156 kilometers in terms of laying of tract, while the June completion of the project brings the project to an early finish from the stipulated three years agreement.

According to him, “This execution of this project is a clear example of the popular saying that “where there is a will, there is always a way.”

ROYAL NEWS reports that the Lagos Ibadan standard gauge rail line was awarded to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company, CCECC to the tune of $1.6 billion was flagged off in March 2017.

Amaechi was accompanied by of Directors of the Rail Department of the Ministry of Transport , Management team of the Nigeria Railway corporation,Project consultants , contractors and other stakeholders in transport sector.
