FG Begins Basic Schools’ Audit April 29.

Muhammadu Buhari

Aminat Isah, Abuja.

The federal government says it would commence National Personal Audit, (NPA) of basic schools on April 29.

The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Hammid Bobboyi, disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

He noted that the essence of the audit is to produce a data bank of pupils, students and personnel of public and private basic education schools nation wide.

Bobboyi further added that the exercise would be conducted in two phases to give authentic data on schools and allow the country know the number of its children out of school.

The UBEC boss said the exercise was last conducted in 2010 and provided first-hand information on categories of people in school and ascertain the challenges with qualified and unqualified teachers.

According to him, “The universal basic education Commission is empowered to establish a basic education data bank and conduct research on basic education in Nigeria.

“Without the audit, we will continue to grope on challenges and implement policies that are not related to the problems on ground”

“We need data and good statistics to support strategic plan for the development of education because no plans can be implemented without data.”
