Fire Destroys Medical Laboratory at Plateau State College of Health Technology

Date:

A fire on Tuesday morning gutted the medical laboratory section of the Plateau State College of Health Technology in Zawan community, Jos South LGA, leaving the facility in ruins. The college Provost, Atangs Ishaku, confirmed the incident, stating that the cause of the fire is still unknown and that an assessment of the damage is ongoing.

According to Ishaku, the fire was reported around 12 a.m., prompting immediate contact with the Federal Fire Service. However, the first team was unable to respond due to vehicle issues, and by the time a second team arrived, the fire had already spread extensively, destroying critical laboratory equipment and resources.

Students at the college have expressed deep frustration and disappointment over the loss. Mathew Gyang described it as a “huge loss” for their studies, while fellow student Sarah John highlighted concerns about coping with the destruction of vital lab facilities, urging the college to take urgent remedial action.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials have yet to determine the full extent of the damage. The incident has raised concerns about safety measures, emergency preparedness, and the need for better fire response systems within the institution.

Students and staff are calling for a thorough investigation and the implementation of stronger safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. The college community continues to reel from the devastating impact of the fire on its educational resources.
