Fubara Vows to Work With APC Lawmakers After Rivers Assembly Bye-Elections

Date:

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said he is ready to collaborate with all members of the State House of Assembly, including newly elected lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the development of the state.

His comment follows the February 21 bye-elections to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The election produced Ukalikpe Napoleon as the winner of the Ahoada East State Constituency II seat and Loolo Bulabari Henrietta as the representative for Khana State Constituency II. Fubara described their victories as well deserved, saying they reflected the confidence of their constituents.

He said the outcome demonstrates the essence of democracy, adding that elected representatives should focus on delivering good governance to the people.

“I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly for the progress of our state,” he stated.

The governor also commended residents of Ahoada East and Khana constituencies for maintaining peace before, during and after the polls, describing the conduct as a sign of democratic maturity.

The development comes amid ongoing political tensions in the state. On February 19, the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended impeachment proceedings against Fubara following a prolonged rift between the governor and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The dispute had previously triggered political instability and led to a period of emergency intervention in the state.
