Gbenga Power Foundation provides multi-million naira food items to 32 communities in Kwara

A part of efforts towards impacting positively on the lives of the less privileged, widows, orphans and the vulnerable in the event of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Gbenga Power Foundation has so far provided bags to 32 communities in Kwara State.

ROYAL NEWS gathered that the food items are truck load of bags of rice, semo and beverages worth millions of naira in commemoration of the Ramadan fasting by muslim faithful.

Checks revealed that the communities are across Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun local government areas in a bid to also find succor to cushion the effects of the lockdown imposed as a measure to curtail the spread of coronavirus diseases in the state.

Beneficiaries were from different political parties, religions groups, associations, tribes as well as social status.

ROYAL NEWS gathered that the team led by the, Chairman of the Foundation, Hon. Gbenga Oyekunle Power visited; Offa, Ilemona, Agunjin, Yaru, Oke-Ode, Oro-Ago, Ilere, Ikosin, Babanla, Kajola, Idera, Afin, Owode and Idofian.

Others are; Omupo Balogun-Oja, Mosudo, Durosoto, Oke-Onijo, Adanla, Babaloma  Adio, Alegongo, Share, Ajegunle-Oja, Ora, Amoyo, Bubu, Oke-Oyan, Obin-Idoba, Bere and Ijagbo.

Our reporter confirmed that social distancing policy was strictly adhere to throughout the visit while close gathering and contact was avoided.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Hon. Gbenga Power disclosed that we are here today to express our solidarity to our people over the currently global health challenge which has claimed so many lives, crippled global economy and resulted into total lockdown and movement restrictions.

According to him, “The current situation has no doubt subjected many households to poverty and hunger of not their makings. As a responsive stakeholder in the society, we are here do donate bags of rice to you, to support your respective families in the critical period of Ramadan fasting and COVID-19 pandemic.  

“Not only that, we are also here to create awareness and sensitization about the deadly infection so that all of us can remain safe and healthy. The most important measure towards curbing the spread of COVID-19 is to maintain social distancing, avoiding crowded places, maintaining personal and public hygiene always.”

Hon. Gbenga Power added that, “COVID-19 is a respecter of nobody, there is need for collective efforts and understanding towards ensuring that we keep our society safe from the infection. Government cannot do it alone, our food intervention programme is to further identify with you at this moment as part of our humanitarian services to the downtrodden.”
