Gombe Approves ₦1.3bn Deputy Governor’s Office, Fire HQ

Date:

The Gombe State Executive Council has approved more than ₦3.9 billion for major infrastructure projects, including a new Deputy Governor’s Office, a modern fire service headquarters and additional education facilities.

The decisions were reached on Monday during the council’s 50th meeting, presided over by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya. Speaking shortly after the meeting, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Usman Kallamu, said ₦1.33 billion was approved for the construction of a new office complex for the Deputy Governor near the Government House at the Old Gombe Jewel Suites.

Kallamu noted that the current Deputy Governor’s Office is located far from the seat of government, and the relocation would improve administrative efficiency.

He added that the council also approved ₦1.3 billion for the completion of five mega colleges across the state.

To strengthen emergency response capacity, the council endorsed ₦1.27 billion for a new fire service headquarters. Kallamu said the complex would provide a permanent and fully equipped base for firefighters who have operated from temporary sites for years. “The establishment of a befitting Fire Service Headquarters will enhance emergency response, safeguard lives and property, and boost urban safety,” he said.

In addition, ₦461.8 million was approved for the construction of a new divisional police station in the Shehu Abubakar District. According to the commissioner, the project has been redesigned and upgraded with modern amenities under the state’s broader urban development plans.

Gombe has adopted a more participatory approach to budgeting in recent years, including citizens’ engagement forums and programme-based budgeting. The state’s 2023 budget was valued at about ₦176.55 billion, while the 2024 budget stands at ₦208.06 billion, with 58% allocated to capital projects.
