- From Grassroots Glory to National Dominance, Kwara Football Soars Under Strategic Leadership
It has been a historic and unforgettable year for Kwara State as the state’s football teams — from youth squads to the senior level — dominated the national scene, winning major titles and earning respect across Nigeria.
The golden run began with Kwara’s triumph at the National U-14 YSFON Chief of Naval Staff Cup in Kaduna, where the young talents proved their mettle by clinching the prestigious trophy. That victory set the tone for what would become a season of exceptional success.
At the 2024 National Sports Festival in Ogun State, Kwara’s football team etched their name in history by securing a silver medal — the state’s best-ever finish in the football event at the festival.
The spotlight then shifted to Lagos, where Kwara United U-19 claimed the inaugural Nigeria Youth League Cup, a major breakthrough that underlined the effectiveness of the state’s youth football programs.
The crowning achievement of the season came when Kwara United senior team lifted the 2025 President Federation Cup, defeating Abakaliki FC 4–3 on penalties after a tense goalless final. It marked the club’s first-ever major national silverware and cemented Kwara’s place among the elites of Nigerian football.
These accomplishments are not by chance. They are the result of intentional planning, bold investment, and committed leadership by His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, the Executive Governor of Kwara State. Under his administration, sports have been revitalized through improved infrastructure, grassroots empowerment, and talent development.
From Kaduna to Lagos, from youth stages to national finals, Kwara has consistently stood tall. What was once potential is now undeniable reality: Kwara is the new home of football in Nigeria.
History has been made. A legacy is in motion. And under Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership, the future of Kwara football shines brighter than ever.
