Gov. Ahmed advocates for ideas to develop local needs

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, has advocated for approaches that will further enhance technological advancement and industrialization of Nigeria with a view to domesticating ideas that will assist local needs,  improves competitiveness and creates jobs for our youth.

He added that, “No country can hope to be technologically developed and economically advanced without industrialization, a venture to which green chemistry have proven critical.”

Governor Ahmed stated this on Thursday in his goodwill message to mark the close of the 40th Annual International Conference, Workshop Exhibition and General Meeting of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) with the theme: “Green Chemistry as a catalyst for Economic Growth and National Security”, held in Kaduna.

Represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education , Science and Technology, Dr.  Aminat Ahmed, the governor said: “As a chemist and trained teacher, I am always pleased to fellowship with you my colleagues in our shared commitment to advancing mankind through science, and specifically, chemistry as well as governance.

“As you celebrate your 40th year of existence, it is clear the CSN has clearly come a long way as a professional body and major stakeholder in the field of science in Nigeria. Your society’s contribution to technological development of Nigeria and by extension her Economic growth over the years are significant and extensive.”

Ahmed, who is also Board of Trustees member of the association emphasised that, “These contributions range from the petrochemical industry, pharmaceuticals, beverages and manufacturing. Given these applications of chemistry and their contributions to our prosperity, this Conference could not have been more timely.

“Coming at a time of serious economic challenges and the subsequent need to diversify our economy, exploring the contributions of green chemistry to economic growth and national security is timely and apt, especially as growing insecurity in parts of the country threaten our economic stability and collective prosperity.”

Earlier in her remarks, the outgoing President of CSN, Professor Gloria Obuzor, thanked members for their commitments towards the development of the association over the years even as she congratulated the newly inducted fellows of the society.
