Governors of the 36 states have resolved to deepen collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and curb insecurity and violent extremism across the country.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) held in Abuja on Thursday night, which lasted into the early hours of Friday.

Reading the communiqué at the end of the meeting, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the resolution followed a presentation by the DSS Director-General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, on emerging security threats and coordinated countermeasures.

The meeting came shortly after the DSS warned of an alleged plot by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to launch coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi states.

Sanwo-Olu said the DSS briefing focused on countering violent extremism, managing inter-communal tensions, and mitigating security risks linked to economic hardship and political transitions.

“Governors expressed appreciation to the DSS for its proactive engagement and reiterated their commitment to deepen intelligence sharing and collaboration with federal security agencies to enhance peace and stability across the states,” he said.

On economic matters, Sanwo-Olu said the forum received a presentation from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), represented by Deputy Governor (Economic Policy), Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, on the bank’s efforts to restore macroeconomic stability.

He said the CBN’s measures, including monetary tightening, exchange rate unification, and bank recapitalisation, were aimed at curbing inflation, strengthening liquidity management, and stabilising the economy.

The governors commended the apex bank for its coordinated engagement with fiscal authorities and pledged continued partnership to sustain economic recovery and ensure fiscal sustainability at the state level.
