An armed group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on Ngoshe in Borno State, where scores of soldiers and civilians were reportedly killed and more than 300 people abducted during a raid on Wednesday night.
In a video circulating online, five armed men claimed they had seized control of the community, burned down a military base, and killed and abducted residents, vowing to remain in the area and celebrate Eid-el-Fitr in the central mosque.
Speaking in Hausa, one of the men said the group had “conquered” the town and threatened to extend attacks to other major locations, including Maiduguri and Abuja, while also admitting to killings and abductions during the assault.
Authorities confirmed that the attack lasted for hours before military air support under Operation Hadin Kai intervened to disperse the attackers, though an unspecified number of residents remain missing and casualties are still being verified.
The state government has announced emergency relief measures for displaced survivors now sheltering in Pulka, dispatching food supplies, blankets and medical support while security agencies continue operations to stabilise the area and account for those affected.
