Gunmen Abduct Seven In Kano Border Community Attack

Date:

Suspected gunmen abducted seven residents in Zurum Mahauta, Gidan Malam Sallau community, Lakwaya village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, late Sunday night.

Local sources told DAILY POST the attack occurred around midnight, with security operatives arriving shortly afterward and pursuing the assailants.

“The gunmen came around midnight and abducted seven people. Soldiers later arrived and chased after them,” a resident, who requested anonymity, said.

There is no official confirmation on whether the security forces intercepted the attackers, who reportedly escaped on motorcycles.

Residents reported that communities along the Katsina–Kano border had previously raised alarms after spotting suspected bandits moving toward Kano State hours before the attack.

According to sources, around 20 armed men on motorcycles were sighted near Danjanku village in Malumfashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, heading toward Kano.

A warning was shared publicly by Facebook user Comrade Yarima BK, urging residents in Gwarzo and neighboring areas, including Shanono, to remain vigilant and take security precautions.

“People should be very vigilant. Bandits numbering about 20 on motorcycles were sighted today around Danjanku village in Malumfashi Local Government Area. They are suspected to be heading towards Kano,” he posted.

Comrade Yarima BK lamented that authorities did not act on the warning until after the attack. “We alerted the authorities and the public, but the warning was not given the necessary attention until after the attack,” he said.

The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in border communities between Katsina and Kano states, where bandits often exploit porous boundaries to conduct kidnappings and raids before retreating.
