Gunmen in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, attacked a bank depositor on Monday, making away with an unspecified sum of money. A police officer was also injured during the incident at the Osuntokun area in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the victim was followed from a bank where he had gone to make a withdrawal. One witness, who asked not to be named, said the victim was forcibly dispossessed of a substantial amount of cash.
A police officer on routine patrol was reportedly injured while trying to confront the suspects.
Confirming the incident, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso said the robbery occurred at around 8:00 am on Secretariat Road, Agodi. He said a bank depositor travelling in a grey Nissan Primera with plate number EPE 901 PS was tracked and robbed of an amount yet to be ascertained.
Initial investigations indicate that the officer sustained severe injuries during a confrontation with the suspects while attempting to prevent further criminal activity. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and the injured officer is receiving medical attention at a secure facility.
The police urged members of the public to provide any information that could help apprehend the suspects. Osifeso added that a thorough investigation is underway and updates would be provided as they become available.
