Mallam Rafiu Oriyomi AJAKAYE, a name that resonates with excellence, integrity, and professionalism in the realm of journalism and public service. As he celebrates another milestone birthday, we take a moment to reflect on his remarkable journey, tracing his background, and exploring how he rose to become one of the most respected Chief Press Secretaries in Nigeria by God’s grace.
Born on December 30, in Lagos, though his origin is from Alabe in Ifelodun Local Government, Kwara State, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye’s life is a testament to the power of grace, hard work, determination, and faith. He was raised in a family that valued education and community service, instilling in him the values of compassion, humility, and a strong work ethic.
Mallam Rafiu’s academic prowess led him to Lagos State University (LASU), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in History and International Studies. He obtained his Master’s degree in the same field, a testament to his commitment to lifelong learning and self-improvement.
It was after his OND in Mass Communication that his passion for journalism was ignited. He began writing for various publications, honing his skills, and developing a keen sense of storytelling. His talent and dedication earned him a spot as a correspondent for ANADOLU AGENCY, the world’s fifth-largest news agency, where he worked with distinction, covering major news events, and gaining international recognition.
In 2011, Mallam Rafiu’s path crossed with Dele Belgore, SAN, a prominent Nigerian politician, who recognized his talent and appointed him as his Media Aide. This marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership, as Mallam Rafiu’s expertise and professionalism helped shape Belgore’s public image and communication strategy.
As a journalist, Mallam Rafiu has worked with various local and international media outlets. His ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and precision has made him a sought-after commentator and analyst.
Mallam Rafiu was fortunate to have been appointed as Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, a high-performing leader who has etched his name in gold in the annals of the state.
