How journalists should cover elections– Ex Kwara NUJ boss

Media practitioners in Kwara State have been advised to be professional in their conducts in elections coverage in line with the dictates of the law, ROYAL NEWS reports.

A former Chairma  of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Alhaji Muhammed Tunde Akanbi, stated this at a pre-election interactive session organised by the union on Friday.

Akanbi noted that ethics and professionalism is highly desirable in election coverage stressing that journalists should be careful and always conduct themselves as non-partisan actors during the polls.

He also warned them from disseminating of fake news and unconfirmed reports to the members of the public adding that such act can overheat the polity.

The media don however urged foreign observers and visiting reporters to always liaise with their home-based colleagues to further ensure effectiveness and efficiency of their reportage.

In his remarks, the Kwara NUJ chairman,  Mallam Umar Abdulwahab, urged members to always contact the leadership of the union in the case of any hitches on the field.

Special prayers was also offered for the safety of all journalists as well as towards a peaceful elections nationwide.
