Igbo Community Demands Credible 2027 Elections In Abuja

Date:

The Igbo Community Association, Abuja, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in 2027, warning that electoral irregularities will no longer be tolerated.

In a statement, the group’s President General, Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, and Secretary General, Emmanuel Onah, emphasized that citizens are now more vigilant and will actively resist any attempts to manipulate votes.

The Association highlighted the need for INEC to use the substantial budget allocated for elections effectively, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.

“It is time for INEC to justify the trust reposed in it by the Nigerian people. We expect a more efficient and effective electoral process that reflects the will of the people,” the statement read.

The group stressed the importance of democratic participation, encouraging all Igbo residents in Abuja to register and exercise their voting rights ahead of the 2027 elections.

The call follows concerns over alleged irregularities during the 2023 general elections, which the Association said undermined public confidence in the electoral system.

By urging proactive measures, the Igbo Community Association seeks to promote good governance and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The statement concluded with a reminder that active civic engagement is crucial to shaping the country’s political future.
