IGP urged to take over Offa Police Barracks’ mgt

The Acting  Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has been urged to urgently take over the recurrent expenditure of the modern police barracks in Offa, Kwara State, built through communal efforts.
It would be recalled that the police barracks was built by the people of Offa to enhance security of lives and property after the robbery attack where 33 people were killed in the town last year.
However, the Kwara State House of Assembly, on Wednesday in response to a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon Saheed Popoola (Balogun / Ojomu Constituency)  on the delay by the police high command in taking up the financial responsibility of running the police barracks since the community handed them over on 27th December, 2018.
The lawmaker said Offa Descendants Union, (ODU), had in a letter to the House solicited  its assistance in ensuring that the police takes over the running of the police barracks.
Meanwhile, the House Leader, Hon Hassan Oyeleke, who seconded the motion, said police personnel in the barracks serve Kwara and adjoining states, adding that the community could not continue to shoulder the recurrent expenditure of the barracks.
He said: “Offa community has other pressing communal needs to attend to, a view shared by the member representing Oke Ogun Constituency, Hon Kamal Fagbemi.
Reading the resolutions of the House, the Speaker,  Dr. Ali Ahmad, commended Offa community for the initiative and directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimah Jummai Kperogi to forward the resolutions of the House to the Inspector of Police and copy the commissioner of Police in Kwara State.
