INEC: No Voting in Two Anambra Polling Units Over Lack of Voters

Date:

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has announced that voting will not take place in two polling units during the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State due to the absence of registered voters.

Amupitan made this known on Tuesday during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) for the Anambra governorship poll.

He said INEC will deploy about 24,000 personnel for the election, which will be conducted in 5,718 of the state’s 5,720 polling units.

“The election will be held in 5,718 of the 5,720 polling units in the state; voting will not take place in the remaining two polling units due to the absence of registered voters,” Amupitan stated.

Speaking on behalf of ICCES, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu—represented by Hassan Abdullahi—assured that robust security arrangements have been made to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

He explained that security agencies will enhance surveillance, deploy adequate personnel, and improve intelligence gathering to prevent disruptions or violence during the polls.

“Moreover, we are proactively engaging with political party leaders and local stakeholders to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our elections,” Ribadu said.

He urged political parties and candidates to promote peace and ensure their supporters conduct themselves responsibly throughout the electoral process.

“Any form of violence during the elections will be met with a strong, uncompromising response,” he warned.
