IPMAN, NNPC, stakeholders in dialogue on substandard PMS

Date:

The Independent Petroleum Merchants Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) says it is in discussion with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and stakeholders over substandard imported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo, national president of IPMAN, revealed this Tuesday in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency in Abuja.

Okoronkwo was reacting to imported high sulfur PMS, while oil traders had been advised not to sell especially to traders carrying that particular cargo.

He said that discussion was ongoing with IPMAN, the upper echelon of NNPC and other relevant stakeholders on how to adjust the operating circle.

This, he said, would prevent the vessel in question from discharging another substandard fuel.

The president pointed out that as soon as the discussion was finished, the result would be made known to the public.

“I want to assure the general public that there should be no panic, there is enough fuel to serve them and there is no cause for alarm because nothing will affect the public or the industry.

“This is the first time we have experienced this and it is not an intentional issue, Nigerians should have to put up with the industry in general,” he said.

On the queues currently being experienced at some gas stations in Abuja and elsewhere, he assured the public that there was sufficient fuel in addition to the undiluted product that had been used.

“There is already enough fuel before this undiluted product, which has been taken care of. No gas station would like to put that in the tank and neither would a car buyer.

“But there are products on the way that have been loaded, as soon as it reaches Abuja and other states, there will be fuel before the week is out,” he said.
