Ireti Doyle Speaks on Online Toxicity

Date:

Veteran Nollywood actress, Ireti Doyle, has expressed concern over the growing toxicity of social media, admitting that the space has become unsafe for her peace of mind.

The 58-year-old actress, who had been away from the online scene for several months, made a rare return to Instagram to explain her decision to take a break from social media.

“I used to wonder what I’d do with myself once I became an ‘empty nester’… now I know. Had to disappear again. The streets of social media — nay, the world in general — is becoming too toxic for my quiet soul. How have you been? I hope you’re protecting yourself?” Doyle wrote.

Born on May 3, 1967, in Ondo State, Ireti Doyle spent much of her early life in Boston, USA, before returning to Nigeria, where she earned a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos.

She began her career as a television producer and presenter, creating and hosting the popular fashion and lifestyle show Oge with Iretiola for ten years, as well as co-hosting Morning Ride on STV.

Doyle’s acting breakthrough came in the late 1990s, and she has since starred in several critically acclaimed films, including Sitanda (2006), Across the Niger (2009), and Torn (2013).

Her exceptional performances have earned her numerous accolades, including the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) for Best Supporting Actress.

She was formerly married to veteran broadcaster Patrick Doyle, but the union ended in divorce.
